Archaeologists stunned by giant ancient city in the Amazon built 2,500 years ago

Archaeologists working in the vast Amazon rainforest have stumbled upon a cluster of lost cities deep inside the jungle. They believe that their findings prove that the forest was home to at least 10,000 farmers some 2,000 years ago.

Many earthen mounds and roads buried beneath the earth were spotted more than 20 years ago by archaeologist Stéphen Rostain.

Back then, however, he said he wasn't entirely sure how "it all fits together".

Now, using laser-sensor technology at the site in Ecuador, he and his team have published their breakthrough findings in what could reveal an entirely different kind of ancient and advanced civilisation that predates the Ince and Maya.
