Archaeologists discovered a pair of underground structures beneath a royal graveyard near the Great Pyramid

Image
Archaeologists have stumbled upon what they described as a large “anomaly” buried under the Giza pyramid complex in Egypt. Researchers used new tools like ground-penetrating radar to assess the area under the Western Cemetery in Giza to see if anything undiscovered was buried there. They discovered a pair of underground structures – one shallow, the other deep – beneath a royal graveyard near the 4,500-year-old Great Pyramid. The archaeologists described the structures as an anomaly because their density differs from that of the surrounding ground. They believe the structures are man-made due to their shape and suspect that they were backfilled after construction.                                         From:  Independent Visit Website  https://www.weaversnest.org/  for more information on Archaeology and History.           ...

Roman-era skeletons buried in embrace, on top of a horse, weren't lovers, DNA analysis shows

Image
Archaeologists excavated the three skeletal remains (the two humans and one horse) — along with two golden pendants in the shape of a wheel and a crescent moon — in 2004 from a cemetery in the ancient Roman city of Ovilava, today known as Wels in the state of Upper Austria. The right arm of one individual lay around the other's shoulder, indicating a close social and emotional connection between the two individuals. An initial analysis classified the burial as Bavarian from the sixth to seventh centuries A.D. based on grave depth, a west-east orientation that is commonly seen in Bavarian burials and the fact that Germanic Bavarians lived there in the early seventh century.                                          From:  LIVESCIENCE Visit Website  https://www.weaversnest.org/  for more information on Archaeology and History.       ...

What is the mystery Roman object found on hill in Norton Disney?

Image
A mysterious Roman artefact dug up in Lincolnshire has left experts baffled as to what it is. Found during an amateur archaeological dig in Norton Disney - where Walt Disney's ancestors hailed from - the 12-sided object has prompted fantastical suggestions as to its use. It has been likened to a dog treat dispenser, a spaghetti measure and even a measuring gauge for slingshot. Here, architectural historian and broadcaster Dr Jonathan Foyle offers his take on some of the suggestions put forward by BBC website users, and his own theory as to the object's purpose.                                                                   From BBC Visit Website  https://www.weaversnest.org/  for more information on Archaeology and History.               ...
