Excavations of a medieval shipbuilders has led to the discovery of a Roman settlement and a Roman head of Mercury. The discovery was made at Smallhythe Place, a late 15th or early 16th-century property managed by the National Trust near Tenterden in Kent, England.  Prior to the decline of the port and shipyard at Smallhythe during the 16th century, the local community played a crucial role in the shipbuilding industry, crafting vessels for notable figures, including members of royalty. As part of a project funded by several UK institutions, over 60 volunteers from the National Trust participated in the excavation, along with professional archaeologists, students, and members of the Hastings Area Archaeological Research Group.                                                                  ...

An ancient egg laid by a bird roughly 1,700 years ago was discovered in England so well-preserved, its contents are still sloshing around inside of it. Archaeologists analyzing the Roman-era specimen say they were downright "blown away" by its contents. The incredible ovum may be the only discovery of its kind in the world. It's certainly the oldest whole egg ever found from Roman times. Archaeologists   working in the vast Amazon rainforest have stumbled upon a cluster of lost cities deep inside the jungle. They believe that their findings prove that the forest was home to at least 10,000 farmers some 2,000 years ago. Many earthen mounds and roads buried beneath the earth were spotted more than 20 years ago by archaeologist Stéphen Rostain. Back then, however, he said he wasn't entirely sure how "it all fits together". The secrets of some Egyptian mummies have been revealed in France, much to the surprise of hardcore historians, who didn’t expect the findings. The scientific revelations were made at the University of Strasbourg in the quaint region of Alsace.  The academic institution acquired five Egyptian mummies which are thousands of years old in an attempt to understand them better.
